Top Five Kitchen Tools Buying Guide
Instant Read Thermometer
Thermapen One
The Thermapen is the absolute gold standard of instant read thermometers. It’s colorful, durable, and most importantly lightning fast! It’s a bit pricey but it’s by far my favorite and will last a long time.
Lavatools Javelin
The Javelin is another amazing thermometer at a much lower price point. I often give these as gifts and keep one outside next to my grill and in my knife bag!
Kitchen Shears
DAFGspec 001
Instagram creator Dry Aged Fish Guy created an excellent pair of shears that are just as useful for herbs and vegetables as they are for dry aged fish.
Digital Scale
Escali Primo Precision Scale
This scale is fast, comes in a lot of colors, and also stays on for a long time without needing to mess with it.
Aprons
Hedley & Bennett Crossback Apron
This is by far my favorite apron. Even on longer days in the kitchen or on the smoker, it’s incredibly comfortable and doesn’t get in the way. The crossback straps keep the tension off your neck and it has tons of pockets!
Caldo Daily Apron
This is another great option at a better price point!
Chef’s Knife
Korin Mahogany Royal Blue Inox Gyuto
I personally prefer the Japanese style of chef’s knife (called a Gyuto) and this is one of my favorites. It’s reasonably priced, super sharp out of the box, and very durable.
Misen Chef’s Knife
Believe it or not, this was my very first chef’s knife. I bought the very first iteration of this knife back when Misen was just a small company on Kickstarter. While I have retired it, I still pull it out from time to time and it’s lasted me over 7 years.
